some singing videos

okay so the other day i performed in a showcase for my singing teacher, similar to the one i did around this time last year.

in this showcase i performed ‘at last’ by Etta James which is so fun to sing and ‘Don’t rain on my Parade’ from Funny Girl and originally performed by Barbara Streisand, i know, a tough act to follow. I was really nervous about this song but i think it went okay.

here are the links to my two songs on youtube, dont forget to subscribe! and i hope you enjoy :)

Teenstar final!

so on the 19th of July i took part in the final of Teenstar, it was so nerve wracking and kind of intense but i thought it was just a really fun time.

the preparation for this round ended up being, by far, the most challenging. Choosing a song is probably the hardest thing there is in something like this but i decided to sing Jason Mraz- i won’t give up. this song, in my opinion, had such great potential and gave me an opportunity to make the song my own. however, i didn’t really anticipate the trouble it was going to cause.

in the weeks leading up to the competition, i was getting stressed out to say the least. singing pop is something that i find kind of challenging and i think the song got to me, it’s like every time i tried to sing it my throat would close up and it wouldn’t come out the way i wanted it to. i ended up just telling myself that i was being stupid and tricking myself into seeing it as a musical theatre song with a character and everything. it sounds strange but it actually happened and somehow it worked.

so on the day of Teenstar, i managed to go most of the day without the nerves hitting me. i don’t know what i was expecting, but this competition seemed a whole lot bigger when we first got there. the audience had grown, a lot, and apparently switching the way a room is laid out can make a whole lot of difference.

anyway, the competition was a lot of fun because we weren’t made to sit in the same room as the people performing like in other rounds. although it’s nice to enjoy the show, sitting through 17 amazing performances can really make the nerves set in. Everyone was really nice and I’m so glad i met all of those new people.

my performance wasn’t the best i had ever done but it was rewarding to sing through the whole song without having my throat close up and feeling like there is nothing i can do.

the winner definitely deserved 1st place, her original song was good enough to be the next hit single and she was really talented. although Teenstar was sometimes a pain, it was a worthwhile time and so I was so grateful for everyone who came to support.

here’s my performance:
